Abstract
In this article, the origins of the names of occupations in the Uzbek language are
studied, and an attempt is made to clarify their etymology. The works of Mahmud
Koshghari, Yusuf Khos Hajib, Alisher Navoi and other devotees of the Uzbek language
were referred to. Names of professions in Sh.Rakhmatullayev's "Etymological
dictionary of the Uzbek language" were analyzed. In addition, the arguments about the
long-standing existence of the noun formative suffix -chi are given and opinions
expressed.
