Abstract

Abstract: Corpus linguistics, a pivotal discipline in modern linguistics, utilizes vast electronic collections of labeled and structured linguistic data, known as corpora, to unravel intricate language patterns. This article explores the evolution and significance of corpus linguistics, tracing its roots to the creation of pioneering corpora in the 1960s. These corpora, including the Brown Corpus and the British National Corpus, offer diverse linguistic samples, enabling comprehensive analyses of language evolution, genres, and styles. Central to corpus linguistics is the concept of representativeness, ensuring the inclusion of varied texts for holistic linguistic exploration. Labeled corpora, marked with specialized tags, facilitate detailed linguistic analyses.
